Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM)
The mission of the JBLM Forestry Branch is to "provide good stewardship of the forested training lands of JBLM by ensuring the continued existence of a healthy forest that supports military training, sustains native plants and animals, and benefits local communities."
JBLM has 61,000 acres of forest, woodland, and savanna, managed for military training and commercial and non-commercial uses. On-site professional foresters and technicians carry out Forest management activities. These activities include forest improvement, reforestation, forest protection, and maintenance of forest access roads.
Thinning projects are common in their management practices, and logs from one of their harvests were made into lattice pieces and used in the new roof at the PDX airport.
