Skokomish Tribe
The Skokomish Tribe is the first tribe in Washington state to gain Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification as a well-managed forest. The 2,086-acre forest in Mason County at the south end of Hood Canal earned the certification through Northwest Natural Resource Group’s (NNRG) FSC® group certificate.
The Skokomish Tribe hired Northwest Natural Resource Group (NNRG) to help steward its forests in 2014 and develop a management plan for its forest holdings, including more than 1,500 acres on the reservation and about 500 acres at Skokomish Park by the shores of Lake Cushman.
Northwest Natural Resource Group worked closely with the PDX airport team, the Skokomish Tribe, and mills to ensure they harvested the quality of logs the mills were looking for to create the lattice for the new roof at the PDX airport.
